We were recruited to Young Enterprise by the outgoing team, the Centre Lead and our Business Adviser before we broke up for the summer. This was great as we had time to think about our roles and our products over the holidays and we had our first board meeting on the first day back at school. We think this is why we were the first team in Europe to open our store on Marketplace. It is essential to be well organised and responsive.
We chose the name Infinity because we wanted something strong and a name that reflected our use of recycled materials. We were determined that we wanted to make something for our customers not just buy-in something and sell on, even if that meant pulling lots of after school sessions and weekends! After some weeks of deliberation and some market research, (which saw us ditching our first idea!), we decided to start with personalised gifts, and we have another unique product in the pipeline.
We have learned so much already, but we realised early on that using social media is key to our business. We have promoted events on Facebook, shared images on Instagram and we are avid Tweeters. For example, we tweet potential customers pictures of our product saying, your product would look great on these! The best thing is working as a team: we have magnificent MDs, a fierce finance director, clever co-secs, a green guru, a helpful HR director, a superlative sales director, impressive IT geeks, prolific production directors, a dazzling designer and magnificent marketeers. We have a wide breadth of strength and depth and we
make room for everyone.
Our school motto is “Age Quod Agis” – whatever you do, do it well and our centre leads and business adviser remind us of this all the time. We only want to send out items of the highest quality, so we have put in checks to make sure this happens. We still have a load to learn: we have to write our interim business report, write and record a script for the local community radio, attend fairs, prepare and give a presentation and be judged in the competition. We are here to make money, learn new skills, cement friendships and have fun. And we want to win!
